Facts

Location: secluded at the southern end of Ixtapa, in the tropical Mexican Pacific Coast "dual destination" Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo (State of Guerrero), 150 miles up the coast from Acapulco (airport code ZIH).

Phonetic pronunciation Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo (this is the official version, ignore all others): eeks-TAH-pa...see-whah-tah-NEH-ho.

Setting: The overall property covers five acres, however the hotel itself is relatively small with only 16 suites that are extremely spacious.

Each suite occupies a complete floor of four contiguous four-story buildings.

The thalasso-spa facilities, swimming pools, restaurant and bar-lounge are spread amid 2-1/2 acres of landscaped gardens with trees, waterfalls and fountains.

Bordering one side of the resort is the 14th hole of Ixtapa's 18-hole Robert Trent Jones golf course and nature reserve.

Beach: 5 minute walk along a countryside path bordering the golf course, or a quick ride by golf cart. Palapa-shaded beach lounging area exclusively for guests, at the south end of Ixtapa's soft-sand Playa del Palmar. Lounges, towels, refreshments, swimming, sunning, sunsets.

Rooms: ALL SUITES, 16 total

Each feature spacious living room, dining area, wet bar, terrace with garden, views of the golf course, countryside and mountains.

• 4 Penthouse Suites, one bedroom with king-size, adjoining bathroom.
• 12 Luxury Suites, very spacious (1,453 sq ft / 135 sq meters) with two bedrooms (one master with king-size bed, second with twin beds), each with private adjoining bathroom.

Exterior architectural style: chalk-white curvilinear design with red-tile roofs, inspired by both Mexican Pacific design and by Andalusian whitewashed villages.

• La Pampa - Spectacular hilltop setting with panoramic view of Ixtapa's coastline from dining room and balcony. Exquisite Argentine-style cuisine includes choice cuts of beef. Fine wine paring. Dinner only, reservations suggested.

Main swimming pool:

100-foot-long infinity-edge freeform outdoor swimming pool features overhead spouts and cascades for neck and shoulder hydro massage. At one end of the pool, a jovial swim-up bar (the back of Luna de Shiva's bar) features submerged barstools enveloped by thousands of tiny bubbles from gentle jets. Surrounding the pool are umbrella-shaded lounges and chairs. Bar and snack service.

Thalasso pools (from Greek thalassa, ancient therapeutic use of seawater):

Extraordinary outdoor 68-ft. Seawater swimming pool equipped with a series state-of-the-art hydro-apparatus providing underwater and overhead thalassotherapy, delightful, relaxing and curative. A smaller thalasso pool contains a much higher degree of salt for flotation therapy with underwater music. Additional thalasso facilities compliment the rejuvenating and therapeutic thalasso experience.
